Arra

Known as “Adi Islam” meaning “Muslim Village” until today, Arra, according Muslim elders in the area, is said to be he first stop point after the followers of Nebiyu Mohammed arrived in Tigrai.

Located one hour walk on foot east of Adigudem, according to Sheik Ghidey, a resident elder, Arra is the first stop point after the followers of Nebiyu Mohammed arrived in Tigrai. Its told that Quran was taught in Arra and that there were more than 40 mosques in the area.

When Italian invaded Tigrai, Muslim settlemets in Arra and adjascent villages of Werabaye and others became target of destruction.

Arra is known as “Adi Islam” meaning “Muslim Village” until today as a result of the prominence of Islamic life in the place. When the population grew, Arra became crowded, as a result of which they started leaving Arra and established Gijet and Feqi Musa villages.
